Susan ChoeGeneral Partner

Susan is the founder of Katalyst Ventures. An early stage fund catalyzing Applied A.I. start-ups in digital health, financial services, logistics and enterprise operations. Susan has founded and operated data driven technology start-ups and Fortune 500 tech companies over 23 years across U.S and Asia. This includes Outspark, a VC backed media publishing start-up acquired by Axl Springer/Gamigo in 2013, and tech corp dev roles at DLJdirect and Yahoo, plus COO of NHN’s international launch.

She has a proven track record of investing in innovative teams applying AI to enhance profit and purpose.

Kathleen SeibertOperations Manager

Kathleen Seibert supports Katalyst Ventures and their portfolio companies by overseeing day-to-day administrative operations and support for the partners and team members. She handles everything from HR and bookkeeping to business/entity management to fund administration and audit support, event planning, vendor and facilities management, project management, and more.

She is an intuitive and creative appraiser of markets, technologies and products, with a three-decade track record of executive leadership building sustainably profitable businesses in emerging, high tech industries; including Consumer, Internet of Things (IoT), Energy, Industrial, Cloud, Mobility, Digital Health, Communications, Advanced Manufacturing, and Semiconductors.

Andrei Zmievski is a software architect and developer with extensive technical background and over 20 years of experience at various prominent Internet companies and information technology firms. His previous work experience includes being an architect and senior engineer at Yahoo, Digg and AppDynamics.

Susan Choe

Founding Partner

Susan Choe is an experienced CEO and technology investor with a proven track record of expertise in executive leadership and venture investing in artificial intelligence. She is the Founding Partner of Katalyst Ventures, a San Francisco venture capital firm that invests in early­stage companies who are radically disrupting industries by using A.I. Previously, she co­founded Visionnaire Ventures, and founded Outspark, a VC­backed media publishing platform which was acquired by Axel Springer’s Gamigo in 2012.

Susan founded Katalyst Ventures to work with early stage (seed stage or Series A) A.I. driven tech companies across fintech, health tech, and enterprise operations (logistics, marketing, HR). In her current role, she and the Katalyst team of partners and advisors across U.S. and international markets provide strategic support to founding teams who have a working prototype with a business model to implement within 12 to 18 months. Her investment approach asks fundamental questions about whether a prospective portfolio company is evolving via A.I. the analog business, technology or operations process patterns or trends via A.I. She serves on the boards of several of her portfolio companies including Zipline, DocMatter, TruValue, HelpShift, and others.

Earlier in her career, Susan co­founded Visionnaire Ventures and founded a startup (Outspark) that went from concept to over two million users and more than $7 million in annual revenue within just a couple of years.

Susan’s direct work in corporate development and international operations management at DLJ Direct in New York, Yahoo Headquarters, and NHN Entertainment Corporation (a leading search and game publisher in Asia) gave her insights on how different tech verticals and online industries evolve and exit across stages and geographies. Susan’s extensive international experience is a fundamental aspect for her cultural fluency in dealing with people across cultures in distributed teams to drive goals.

As a frequent speaker, Susan provides business and technology commentary at events and in the media. Susan attended Columbia University and received her Masters of International Finance, and her B.A. in Political Science with a focus on International Economics from UC Irvine.

Kathleen Seibert

Operations Manager

Kathleen supports Katalyst Ventures and their portfolio companies by overseeing day-to-day administrative operations and support for the partners and team members. She handles HR and bookkeeping, business/entity management, fund administration and audit support, event planning, vendor and facilities management, project management, and more.

Kathleen started her career in banking and has a wide variety of experience in finance, operations and startup environments. Prior to launching with Katalyst she joined Susan Choe at Visionnaire Ventures in 2016. Other prior fund experience includes StepStone Global/Clairvue Capital.

When she’s not at the office, you can find Kathleen (a trained pastry chef) in the kitchen or curled up with a book. She’s very passionate about fitness and loves outdoor adventuring and travel.

Jeannine Sargent

Jeannine’s professional expertise includes: business strategy, operational excellence, sales & marketing, corporate governance, R&D, M&A, organic growth, manufacturing and supply chain on a global scale. She has a proven track record of building and unifying exceptional leadership teams that deliver results to shareholders and are intentionally diverse and empowered to innovate – Jeannine believes that the best teams are diverse in cultural background, gender, age and experience.
In her role at Katalyst Ventures, Jeannine advises Katalyst’s portfolio companies on CEO coaching, team-building, technology commercialization, strategic partnerships and go-to-market strategy. She is a leader and business mentor who is proactive, results-driven, intellectual and passionate.

Jeannine’s investment interests are focused on companies and teams that have a mission to improve the quality of people’s lives and the environment, such as improving productivity, means of communicating, or reducing effort or waste created to accomplish daily tasks. She has a passion for technology and for working with companies that are leveraging disruptive technologies, especially AI and machine learning, to solve real problems and create sustainable value for investors, customers and consumers. She looks to invest in leadership teams who share the values of Katalyst Ventures, who have compassion, dedication, capability to deliver on their vision, and the commitment and resilience to overcome obstacles along the way.

● Flex: $25 billion Sketch-to-Scale solutions provider that designs and builds intelligent products for a connected world

Andrei Zmievski

Technical Venture Partner

Andrei Zmievski is a software architect and developer with an extensive technical background and more than twenty years of experience at prominent internet companies and information technology firms. He is an operating partner at Katalyst Ventures, where he applies his strong credentials with globally scaling software platforms.

He previously worked with Susan Choe, Katalyst founding partner, at her startup Outspark, where his skills in architecting and leading software development helped launch and scale the platform from $0 to $7 million annual revenue in less than two years from launch.

Andrei was part of the PHP language original author group, and has deep expertise in the dynamic languages arena, leading open source projects, and developing solutions in producing leading edge web software. He has extensive experience working with domestic and international teams, both within companies including the likes of Yahoo, Digg and AppDynamics, and in the open source world.

Born in Uzbekistan and raised in Russia, Andrei came to the U.S. for the first time at sixteen on a high school exchange program, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Nebraska. He finds motivation and inspiration in the process of learning new things – whether related to the project at hand or by exploring information on a totally different topic or discipline.

Andrei is a creative and relentlessly innovative problem-solver who uses his intellectual agility and curiosity to develop solutions in unorthodox ways. In his free time, Andrei enjoys photography, discovering new places and studying languages.
